Candle Care

Care Instructions for your new Soy Candle

  • When lighting your soy candle for the first time, allow the wax to melt all the way to the edge of the glass. This should take about 1 to 3 hours depending on the size of your candle.

  • This is to stop any tunnelling or uneven melting of the wax and ensures you get a nice clear burn each and every time.

  • When it comes time to putting out your candle, DO NOT blow out the flame but instead dip the wick of the candle into the melted wax pool. This will not only extinguish your candle but it also primes the wick ready for when you next wish to light your candle and eliminates any smoke.

  • When you are ready to relight your candle, trim the wick to about ¼ inch or 6mm. This is to ensure a long lasting candle and eliminates soot.

  • Soy wax does not burn as hot as paraffin wax and requires a thicker wick  and does require regular trimming.

  • As the candle burns down, it stops at a certain point leaving a bit of wax at the bottom which can help alleviate glass breakages. If a candle is left to 'burn out', it increases the chances of glass breakages as the glass heats up the most at this point.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Candles are meant to be enjoyed, but it is important that you follow some common sense safety rules when burning them.

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended. Extinguish all candles when you leave a room or before going to sleep.

  • Follow the 2-foot rule - don't place a burning candle within two feet of clothing, books, curtains or anything flammable.

  • Keep lit candles away from draughts, ceiling fans and any air currents. Any form of air current can cause uneven burning, smoking, diminish the scent throw and even decrease the burn time.

  • Trim the wick to 5mm each time the candle is lit. This helps prevent the flame from getting too large.

  • Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.

  • Place candle holders on a stable, heat-resistant surface that is sturdy and large enough to catch any melted wax.

  • Always read and follow manufacturers' directions for use and safety, and extinguish a candle if the flame gets too close to the candle holder or container.

  • Place burning candles at least 10cm apart from one another.

  • A burning candle should not be used as a nightlight.

  • A candle should not be burned for more than 4 hours at a time.

  • Do not burn the candle if the container is cracked, chipped, scratched or damaged in any way.

  • If the candle is burning correctly, it should be constant (not flickering), teardrop shaped and upright.

Care Instructions for your Soy Wax Melts

  • Soy wax melts are designed to be used in an oil burner with a tealight candle or electric burner.
  • Place your selected burner in a safe place on a stable heat resistant surface away from the edge, hanging drapes or curtains and pets and children.
  • When you are ready to use your soy wax melts, place the melt in the top dish of the burner:
1 x Soy Wax Tart Melt
OR
1 to 3 Soy Wax Cube Melts

  • If you are using an electric oil burner, plug the oil burner in and turn on. If not, light a tealight candle and place in the base of the oil burner.
  • When the soy wax melts have melted, the fragrance will fill the room.
  • When you are ready to turn off your burner, switch the electric oil burner off or extinguish the tealight candle.
  • When the oil burner is turned off or tealight candle extinguished, the soy wax melt will begin to harden. You can either leave it in the dish to reuse for next time or gently pop it out.
  • You can continue to reuse your soy wax melts until there is no fragrance left.

Information about hand poured Soy Wax products

As our beautiful soy candles are hand-crafted and poured from time to time you may notice a slight defect.

When using a natural soy wax, some common factors include:

  • Dark or wet looking spot/s between the glass and the candle
  • Frosting - when you look at the appearance of the glass it looks like the sides of the candle are frosted
  • Sometimes you may notice that the tops of the candles are not 100% smooth
  • If you notice any of the above, rest assured there is nothing wrong with your candle. It will still perform and work as it should. These are some minor deflects you may find when using a natural soy wax product and hand pouring
